Women's Soccer Falls to Auburn 3-2 in Home Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army women's soccer fell to Auburn by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
Auburn became the first SEC school to make the trip to West Point.
The game was fast paced from the opening as both teams traded possession early on.
Brigid Duffy gave Army an early 1-0 lead in the 25th minute after a nice assist from Kaitlin Palaian. Duffy slotted it home in the bottom left corner to beat the Tiger keeper and give the Black Knights the advantage.
In the 38th minute the Tigers responded with a goal of their own to make it a 1-1 ball game.
Jordan Follenweider quickly responded with her first career goal to give Army the lead back just two minutes later. She went to the opposite corner to beat the Auburn keeper.
Auburn opened the second half by scoring an own goal to tie things up at 2-2 in the 51st minute.
The Tigers took a 3-2 lead after Anna Haddock weaved her way through the Army defense and found the back of the net in the 61st minute.
Follenweider had an incredible look from about 25 yards out in the 80th minute but the Auburn keeper was able to jump up and push it over the crossbar.
In the 85th minute she was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Auburn had the advantage in shots 13-12 and each team had seven shots on goal.
Ultimately, the Black Knights would fall in a heartbreaker 3-2.
They'll be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 31 on the road against UConn.
