Women's Soccer Tabbed Second In Preseason Poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Army West Point women's soccer team was picked second in the Patriot League preseason poll the league announced on Thursday afternoon.
The defending regular season Patriot League champions picked up five first place votes with Bucknell being picked to finish first after receiving seven first place votes.
Senior defender Lindsey Smith was named to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team. The Valley Stream, N.Y. native returns after starting 20 games last season where she spent a career-high 1397 minutes on the pitch. She scored her second career goal against Lehigh in the Patriot League.
The team returns 23 players including star goalkeeper Sage Strohman. She was named to the Second Team All-Patriot League after a season where she only allowed 0.80 goals per game to finish top 50 in the nation. Her save percentage of .826 also ranked top-50 in the country. Her eight shutouts were tied for second most in the Patriot League.
Keira Vesy will be returning to the back line for the Black Knights. She's coming off a season where she made 19 starts and racked up 1633 minutes on the pitch. She netted two goals on the season and her stellar defense kept the game tied 1-1 against Boston University before Army eventually won 3-2 to clinch the regular season Patriot League crown.
Kaelan Bradley returns to the midfield after starting 20 games last season. Her three goals were second most on the team and was second in the team in points with 10. She scored the game-winning goal against Boston U to seal the regular season Patriot League championship.
Team captains Kaitlin Palaian and Jasmine Talley are both returning. Palaian was tied for the team lead with four goals. She netted the game-winner against Navy to clinch the Star match. Talley had one goal and one assist against Boston College last season and made 18 appearances including five starts.
Sophomores Brigid Duffy, Jordan Follenweider, and Cami Silvestro will all look to have a big impact on the 2023 campaign. A two-sport star, Duffy is coming off a season where she logged 878 minutes on the soccer pitch netting three goals and dishing out two assists. She then joined the women's lacrosse team where she took home Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors and was named an All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine and ILWomen.
Follenwider returns after starting nine games and appearing in 19 for Army on the defensive side of the ball.
Silvestro looks to build off of a strong freshman season where she started six matches and appeared in 19. She logged 867 minutes and earned her first career assist against Boston College.
The Black Knight's 2023 season begins with a three game road trip. They'll take on UNC Greensboro on Aug. 17 then head down the road to take on head coach Tracy Chao's alma mater, Wake Forest on Aug. 20 before wrapping up the road trip against Wagner on Aug. 24.
Army's home opener will be Aug. 27 against Auburn and they will host Air Force on Sep. 7. The Star Match against Navy will take place in Annapolis on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
