HOUSTON – The Army West Point men's rugby team placed third in the CRAA Men's Premier 7s College Rugby Championships.
"As a team with a lot of young guys, this tournament was a great experience," Joe Manning said. "The 7s training led to a lot of individual development and the tournament got new players opportunities to play high level competition on our first side, an invaluable experience and confidence builder for the young guys. We learned a lot and developed a lot over the two weeks of 7s, which will create a great platform for us to build off of going into next season."
The day started with a tough match against Lindenwood that saw the Black Knights fall by a score of 40-0.
Army regrouped for the third place game against Davenport to the tune of 28-0 win.
SCORING SUMMARY
1' Army Try (Manges) + Conversion (Manning) 7-0
7' Army Try (Murray) + Conversion (Manning) 14-0
9' Army Try (Rotello) + Conversion (Manning) 21-0
13' Army Try (Knight) + + Conversion (Manning) 28-0
George Engels said afterwards: "The team played exceptionally well especially after rebounding from a couple losses throughout the tournament. We never really let those losses get to our head and instead always looked to improve our climb as a team. We finished strong during our final match with all underclassman on the pitch which was a testament to our coaches and staff. It was a great way to cap off the season with the brothers and I'm excited for the future of this team."
