Black Knights Sweep Lehigh with 7-5 Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team (19-12, 9-2 PL) defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (13-20, 1-10 PL) 7-5. Army's Braden Golinski went 4-for-4, having two runs, two RBIs, a double, a home run, and three stolen bases.
Army's pitching stood out, striking out 12 batters.
How it Happened
Army threatened Lehigh starter Teddy Tolliver (L, 1-1) in the bottom of the second inning, Braden Golinski hitting a leadoff single to left field. Golinski stole second after a strikeout, putting a runner in scoring position. Golinski then advanced to third base on a ground out. The Mountain Hawks cleared the side with a fly-out.
In the bottom of the third, the Black Knights attacked Tolliver. With one out, junior Derek Berg ripped a double to right center, putting a runner in scoring position. Berg reached third on a groundout, putting a runner 90 feet from home plate. Kevin Dubrule hit an RBI single up the middle, sending Berg in to home, giving Army a 1-0 lead. Ross Friedrick made it a 2-0 game after ripping an RBI double to left field, sending Dubrule across the plate. The Black Knights made it a 3-0 game after Golinski hit an RBI double through the right side, sending Friedrick in to score.

Sophomore Coleson Titus ripped a single to Tyler Young, putting runners on the corners. Army extended its lead after Titus and Golinski stole second and home respectively, making it a 4-0 game.

Lehigh ended the inning with a strikeout.
Lehigh threatened Army starter Matthew Ronnebaum (W, 3-2) in the top of the fourth inning. Casey Rother hit a leadoff single to right field, putting a runner on base. With one out, the Mountain Hawks had runners on first and second after Justin Butler was hit by a pitch. Army retired the side with a double play.
In the bottom of the fourth, relief pitcher Cole Leaman came in to relief for Teddy Tolliver.
With one out, the bats for the Black Knights came alive with Addison Ainsworth hitting a single through the right side, putting a runner on first. With two outs, Ainsworth stole second, putting a runner in scoring position. Junior Sam Ruta ripped an RBI double to right center, sending Ainsworth across the plate, making it a 5-0 game. The Black Knights made it a 6-0 game after hitting an RBI double down the left field line, sending Ruta in to score. Lehigh cleared the side with a fly-out.
The Mountain Hawks threatened Ronnebaum again in the top of the fifth. Gerard Sweeney ripped a single to left field, putting a runner on first. Junior Andrew Nole hit a single right field, putting runners on first and second. With two outs, Army retired the side with a double play.

Ben Christian came in to relief for Cole Leaman.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Golinski hit a leadoff single to right center, putting a runner on first. Golinski stole second, putting a runner in scoring position. The Mountain Hawks cleared the side with two strikeouts and a ground out.
Lehigh attacked Ronnebaum in the top of the sixth inning. Tyler Young ripped a leadoff single to left center, putting a runner on first. Casey Rother reached first after hitting a single, putting runners on first and second. With one out, Butler grounded, advancing Young and Rother to second and third. The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases after Joe Gorla was hit by a pitch. Lehigh got on the board after Young scored on a wild pitch. Ronnebaum cleared the side with a strikeout.
Robbie Buecker came in to relief for Matthew Ronnebaum.
In the top of the seventh, the Mountain Hawks' leadoff hitter Andrew Nole reached first after being walked. Nole advanced to second on a passed ball, putting a runner in scoring position. Dom Patrizi reached first on an error by Ruta, putting runners on first and second. With one out, Patrizi and Nole advanced to second and third after Young grounded out. Rother cut Army's lead to two runs after hitting a two-run home run to left field. Rafe Perich followed with a double to right field, putting a runner in scoring position. Buecker retired the side with a strikeout.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Braden Golinski blasted a solo home run to center field, giving the Black Knights a three-run lead.

Coleson Titus was walked, pitting a runner on first. Ryan Deom came in to pitch relief for Ben Christian. Army had runners on first and second after Ethan Ellis was hit by a pitch. Thomas Schreck grounded out, advancing runners to second and third, putting two runners in scoring position. Lehigh retired the side with a fly-out.
With an out in the top of the eighth inning, Drew Morse came into the game to pinch-hit for Gerard Sweeney. Morse ripped a single to the Dubrule, advancing in a throwing error. The Mountain Hawks made it a 7-5 game after Andrew Nole hit an RBI double to right center, sending Morse in to score. Army cleared the side with a foul out and a ground out.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Derek Berg ripped a leadoff single to Young, putting a runner on base. Berg advanced to second on a wild pitch, putting a runner in scoring position. With one out, Berg advanced to third on a groundout. Lehigh retired the side with a fly-out.
The Mountain Hawks began their comeback attempt in the top of the ninth inning. Tyler Young reached on an error, putting a runner on first. With one out, Perich hit a single to right field, putting runners on first and second, putting a runner in scoring position. Lehigh loaded the bases after Justin Butler hit a single to Dubrule. Buecker secured the win for Army with two strikeouts.
