Army Defeats Stony Brook in 10-Inning Thriller

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team (20-12, 9-2 PL) defeated the Stony Brook University Seawolves (12-18, 4-8, CAA) 7-6 in ten innings Tuesday afternoon. Army's Addison Ainsworth went 2-4, had an RBI, and a stolen base.
How it Happened
With the game tied 6-6 in the tenth inning, freshman Addison Ainsworth ripped a single to right field, which was the deciding factor as the Black Knights defeated Stony Brook 7-6.
The Seawolves' quickly attacked Army starter Dom Trippi (No Decision). Evan Fox walked, putting a runner on at first. Fox stole second, putting a runner in scoring position. With one out, Shane Paradi hit a two-run home run to left field, giving Stony Brook a 2-0 lead. Matt Brown-Eiring followed with a solo blast to left field, making it a 3-0 game. With a runner on first, Brett Paulsen ripped a single to right, advancing Derek Yalon to third base. The Seawolves' made it a 4-0 game after Matt Miceli hie a single to Trippi, sending Yalon across the plate. With the bases loaded, the Black Knights picked off Miceli. With runners on first and second, Army retired the side with Fox lining out to Kevin Dubrule.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Black Knights also attacked Stony Brook starter, Brandon Lashley. Leadoff hitter Braden Golinski reached first on an error by third baseman Evan Giordano. Senior Kevin Dubrule hit an RBI single to left center, sending Golinski in to score, making it a 4-1 game. With two outs, Dubrule reached second on a wild pitch, putting a runner in scoring position. Lashley cleared the side with a pop-up.

The Black Knights threatened Lashley in the bottom of the second. Army had a runner on first after Coleson Titus was hit by a pitch. Freshman Addison Ainsworth hit a single to center field, putting runners on first and second. The Seawolves' ended the inning with a strikeout, a pop-up, and a groundout.
Devin Sharke came in to relief for Brendan Lashley.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Derek Berg ripped a single to left center putting a runner on base. Senior Ross Friedrick hit a single to center field, advancing Berg to third. Stony Brook retired the side with a pop-up.
In the top of the fourth, Army's Trevor Finan came in to pitch relief for Dom Trippi. Finan cleared the side with a groundout, a pickoff at second, and a strikeout.
In the bottom of the fourth, Brendan Pattermann came in to relief for Devin Sharke.
The bats came alive for the Black Knights. With one out, Thomas Schreck walked, putting a runner on first. Freshman William Parker hit his first career home run, making it a 4-3 game.

Jerek Hobb came in to pitch for Devin Sharke. Hobb ended the inning with a strikeout and a pickoff at second base.
The Seawolves retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning with Evan Giordano hitting a solo home run to left field, making it a 5-4 game. Finan cleared the side with a fly-out and a double play.
Army continued to attack the Seawolves' pitching staff. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Friedrick ripped a single to center field, putting a runner on base. Hobb loaded the bases with two consecutive walks. Relief pitcher Cade Thompson came into the game for Jerek Hobb. The Black Knights made it a 5-5 game after Thomas Schreck hit a sacrifice fly to left field, sending Friedrick across the plate. Ainsworth stole second with a runner on third, putting two runners in scoring position. Thompson ended the inning with a strikeout.
Bryce Brownlee came into the game to pitch relief for Trevor Finan.
Army and Stony Brook were in a pitcher's duel in the sixth and seventh inning.
With one out in the top of the eighth, Brown-Eiring hit a double to left center, putting a runner in scoring position. Jason Campo came in to pinch-hit for Yalon. For Army, Joe Valchar came in to relief for Brownlee. Matthew Wright came into the game to pinch-hit for Brett Paulsen. Wright walked, putting runners on first and second. Anthony Gentile came in to pinch-hit for Miceli. Gentile regained the lead for Stony Brook after hitting an RBI single, sending Brown-Eiring in to score. Stony Brook's Michael Anquillare came into the game to pinch-hit for Matt DeStefano. Army cleared the side with a pop-up.
Army continued to fight back in the bottom of the eighth. Freshman William Parker hit a leadoff single to right field, putting a runner on base. Braden Golinski hit a sacrifice bunt, advancing Parker to second. Relief pitcher Nick DeGennaro came in to relief for Eric Foster. Dubrule ripped an RBI single to left field, sending Parker across the plate, making it a 6-6 game. With runners first and second, DeGennaro retired the side with a strikeout and a groundout.

Ainsworth advanced to second on a wild pitch, putting a runner in scoring position. Stony Brook retired the side with two strikeouts and a fly-out.
After retiring the Seawolves' in the top of the tenth, the Black Knights came out firing on all cylinders. Kevin Dubrule hit a leadoff single to left field, putting a runner on first. With one out, Derek Berg hit a single to left field, putting runners on first and second. With two outs, Coleson Titus walked, loading the bases. Freshman Addison Ainsworth hit a walk-off single, sending Dubrule in to score, securing the win for the Black Knights.
