March 28, 2023 | Men's Gymnastics
WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point gymnastics sophomore Joseph Buselmeier has been named a CGA Regular Season All-American in the all-around, announced today by the Collegiate Gymnastics Association.Â
Buselmeier lived up to the billing after being named an ECAC Preseason Gymnast to Watch, earning ECAC Gymnast of the Week on three separate occasions throughout the season.Â
His all-around season was highlighted by a 77.95 at the West Point Open on Jan. 13-14. He posted a season and career-best 13.30 on vault in the event on his way to third-place overall for the meet in AA. Buselmeier's 12.50 on pommel horse at the WPO also marked a season-best score for the sophomore.Â
Buselmeier claimed the title on horizontal bars at Springfield soon after, to the tune of a season and career-high score of 13.40. He also claimed the top spot on parallel bars at the meet to help Army to its first victory of the season over the Pride. He added a 13.40 on still rings to complete a dominant weekend across multiple events.
In Army's tri-meet versus Air Force and Cal on Feb. 11, Buselmeier had a wonderful showing on still rings en route to second-place in the event. His 13.70 score tabbed a new career-best while leading the Black Knights in the event.
His most dominant parallel bars performance would come at home versus Ohio State, claiming second-place with a 13.65. In Army's penultimate meet of the season against Cal, Buselmeier shined once again, posting a 13.75 on floor exercise for a season and career-high.
It marks the second consecutive season that Army has tabbed an All-Ameircan, with Matthew Davis achieving the honor in 2022.
Buselmeier will help lead the Black Knights into the ECAC Championships this Saturday (Apr. 1) hosted by Navy.
