Max Itagaki Named to Tim Taylor Award Watch List

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point hockey freshman Max Itagaki has been named to the Tim Taylor Award Watch List, announced today by the Hockey Commissioners Association. The national men's rookie of the year award, the Tim Taylor Award is given to the top men's freshman in the country and will be announced at the Frozen Four. He is one of two Atlantic Hockey freshman to land on the list, which includes 27 names total.
Itagaki has taken the league by storm while playing in all 28 games for Army to this point. He currently leads Atlantic Hockey in assists with 22, which is tied for fourteenth nationally and ranks sixth among all NCAA freshmen. The Glenview, Ill., native leads all AHA freshmen and is tied for the Army team lead with 24 points. A two-time Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week winner, Itagaki was voted the AHA Rookie of the Month in November after posting six points in six games on the heels of a nine-point streak that began in October. Itagaki enters play this weekend one assist shy of tying for seventh place on the AHA freshman assists list.
He logged a pair of assists last time out at Sacred Heart to help Army earn a 4-1 victory, as the Black Knights return to action this weekend (Feb. 10-11) to host Holy Cross for an Atlantic Hockey series.
