"Super" Mann Erupts for 18 In Second Half To Lead Men's Hoops Past Loyola

WEST POINT, NY – Army West Point (14-12, 8-5) completed the season sweep of Loyola Maryland (8-18, 3-10) defeating the Greyhounds, 76-70 at Christl Arena on Wednesday night.
Chris Mann erupted to score 18 points in the second half, leading all scorers on the night. Mann showcased his offensive ability driving to the bucket and finishing on numerous occasions down the stretch. Mann finished 7-10 from the field and also had five rebound and three assists.
Army's Ethan Roberts, the Patriot league Rookie of the Week picked up where he started, splashing the games first shot, a three-pointer. Fellow freshman Coleton Benson quickly followed with a three of his own as Army paced out to a quick 6-2 lead. Benson connected on two three-pointers in the first half and scored eight points.
Matt Dove provided a highlight reel dunk with a massive put-back slam to give Army some momentum and an early17-15 lead.
After more back-and-forth play, Army led 31-30 at the half.
Army received some nice bench minutes from Abe Johnson who scored six points and logged seven rebounds in the first half. Dove also added four. Jalen Rucker and Benson each had eight first half points.
Roberts picked up the same way he started the game, splashing the first shot of the second half, a three-pointer. Benson and Roberts then scored layups to get Army out to a six-point lead.
At the 15:26 mark, Army led by seven, 45-38 following makes by Abe Johnson and Roberts.
Loyola's Deon Perry made a three-pointer as Loyola responded with a 8-2 scoring run to close the gap to just two points. A possession later, Perry gave the Greyhounds the lead making another three in which he was fouled capitalizing on a four-point play taking a 50-47 advantage.
Army's freshman Ethan Roberts would stop the Loyola run as he connected on his third three-pointer to regain the lead for the Black Knights, 52-50.
Loyola's Kenneth Jones hit a three-pointer during a 7-0 run for the Greyhounds as they retook the lead, 57-52 at the 11:07 mark in the second half.
Coleton Benson converted on a three-point play to pull Army within three points, 59-56 under the nine minute mark.
Mann began his second half takeover around the 6:34 mark in the second half, scoring on a layup to bring the Black Knights within one, 64-63 with 5:12 to play. He scored on a driving layup a possession later following an Army defensive stop to give Army a 65-65 lead. He would then score for a third straight possession to extend the lead, 67-64.
Loyola's Deon Perry was quick to answer as he splashed his fourth three-point make of the night tying things up at 67-67 with under three minutes to play. Perry gave the Greyhounds a one-point lead, 70-69 at the 2:19 mark.
When Army needed a bucket late, Mann was again super converting on an and-one made driving layup in which he converted at the foul, giving the Black Knights a two-point lead with 1:07 to play.
Ethan Roberts sealed the game with his own and-one bucket with 12 seconds remaining and give Army the 76-70 win.
Mann finished with a game high 18 points, Roberts (17) on 3-5 shooting from three-point, and Benson (13).
Deon Perry and Jaylin Andrews each scored 17 for Loyola.
