Pakkam Sets Career Smallbore Mark at GARC Championships

Morgantown, W.Va. – Anusha Pakkam fired a career high 586 in smallbore, and Chris Jennings recorded a 587 in air rifle, to set the pace for the Army West Point rifle team during the two-day Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships hosted by West Virginia at the WVU Shell Building.
Pakkam recorded a perfect 200 in prone, along with a 198 mark in kneeling, for a 586 composite that broke her former mark of 585 set during the fall against conference rivals North Carolina State and Akron. The Army senior placed 14th overall among a challenging field of 59 shooters the opening day of the championship.
Rounding out the Black Knights' top scores in smallbore were Ashley Clegg (579, who finished 32nd, along with Chris Jennings and Claudia Sigel, firing identical scores of 573, as Army posted a team score of 2301.
Jennings was Army's high scorer the final day in air rifle (587) followed closely by Pakkam's 586 with Ashton O'Connell (582) and Spencer Gillis (573) rounding out the Black Knights' contingent (2333) en route to a 4634 aggregate score.
Host West Virginia maintained its first-day lead in smallbore (2345) in closing out the final day with a 2377 air rifle score for a composite 4722 to capture its 15th GARC title. Ole Miss and Kentucky, who edged the Mountaineers for the air rifle title as both shot 2379s, posted team marks of 4715 and 4714 in rounding out the top three schools, respectively.
