Baseball falls to Air Force, 9-3; But Win Opening Series

CLEBURNE, TEXAS - Army West Point Baseball (2-1) could not complete the three-game sweep on Sunday, falling to rival Air Force Academy (1-2), 9-3 in the final game of the Liberty Classic.

Air Force jumped on Army starter Bryce Brownlee (0-1) early, as 3B Jay Thomason hit a two-run HR in the first inning.

Brownlee only worked 2.1 innings, giving up three hits and three runs and striking out three.

Army responded in the top of the second when 2B Bret Copeland hit an RBI double that plated Ross Friedrick to make it a one-run game.

The Falcons scored two more in the third off an RBI double by 1B Sam Kulasingam and an RBI single by Thomason.

Army SS Kevin Dubrule launched his first HR of the season, a solo shot in the seventh, cutting the Air Force lead, 4-2.

Aside from the solo shot given up to Dubrule, Air Force starter Seungmin Shim (1-0) was great, working 6.0 innings, only giving up two hits and one run, while striking out five.

Air Force would score two in the seventh and three in the eighth to grow its lead, winning the final game of the best of three, 9-3.

Air Force's Jay Thomason was 3-5 with an HR and 5 RBI. Sam Kulasingam was 3-4 with a 2B and an RBI.

Army's Bret Copeland was 2-3 with a 2B (2), and two RBI.

Army will be back in action for a three-game series next weekend vs. Charlotte.
