WEST POINT, N.Y. -The Army West Point women's tennis team defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies 7-0 Friday afternoon.
Army won the doubles point after sweeping the Huskies. In the No. 1 position Cooper Jackson and Elizabeth Gilbert defeated Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou 6-4. Isabella Brilliant and Maria Drobotova bested Aleksandra Karamyshev and Isabel Petri Bere 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. McKinnley Smith and Anna Loureiro defeated Selen Takunyacu and Caroline Cook 7-5.
In the singles matches, Jackson went up against Wright in the No. 1 spot, defeating Wright in two sets (7-5, 6-2). In the No. 2 match, Gilbert faced Maria Constantinou. Gilbert won the first set 6-1 and won the second set 6-4.
In the third spot, Emma Sy bested Aleksandra Karamyshev in two sets (6-4, 6-3). Sophomore Jenna Sabile competed in the No. 4 spot, defeating Isabel Petri Bere in three sets. Petri Bere won the first set 6-1. In the second set, Sabile defeated Petri Bere 6-2. Sabile won the third set 6-4.
In the fifth position, Ylan Duong went up against UCONN's Caroline Cook. Duong won in two sets (6-0, 6-2). In the No. 6 spot, freshman Isabella Brilliant faced Cameron Didion. Didion won the first set 6-1, while Brilliant won the second set 6-3. Isabella Brilliant bested Didion in a thrilling 10-7 tiebreaker set.
