West Point, NY – The Army West Point women's basketball team (2-5) fell to the Hofstra Pride (4-2) by a score of 43-54 Tuesday evening. The game was the second of six straight at home for the Black Knights. How it Happened
The Hofstra Pride came out shooting 61% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc in the first quarter. The Black Knights were able to hold their own from three making three of five in the first ten minutes as that made up almost 70% of Army's total first quarter points. The Pride led by ten with just under two minutes left in the opening frame until a Soleil Montrose three and a bucket from Taylor Wilson would cut the lead in half heading into the second quarter.
Second-quarter scoring was opened up with a Reese Ericson layup to cut the deficit to just three. A series of Army fouls and turnovers allowed Hofstra to go on a ten-point run prior to the end of the half. The only other Black Knights buckets of the second quarter were Trinity Hardy and Sam McNaughton jumpers. In the first half, Army shot 25.9% from the field as opposed to Hofstra's 42.9%. The Pride led by 11 at the end of the second with a score of 30-19.
Army gained momentum early in the third with a layup by Kya Smith followed by a three from Fiona Hastick to start the quarter. Reese Ericson had an explosive third quarter, posting back-to-back threes, a steal, and a pair of rebounds. A free throw from Ericson and another Kya Smith layup cut the Pride's lead to just three by the end of the third. The Black Knights outscored the Pride 14-6 in the third quarter.
The Pride went on a seven-point run to start the fourth quarter. Army responded with a jumper from Sam McNaughton followed by a pair of layups from Trinity Hardy and Kya Smith. Hoftra went on another seven-point run in the last two minutes of the game, until disrupted by a Reese Ericson jumper. Fourth-quarter scoring was closed out with two Pride free throws for a Hofstra 11-point victory.
Army will retake the court at home on Wednesday, December 6th as they take on the University of Vermont at 5:00 pm.
