Women's Basketball Gets Second Home Win 59-34.

West Point, NY – The Army West Point women's basketball team (2-4) opened up a six-game home stand with a 59-34 win over Connecticut College (0-4) Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Kya Smith recorded her second double-double of the season posting 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior captain Lauren Lithgow also scored in double digits adding 10 points of her own while causing problems for the Camels on defense with six steals.
How it Happened
Army took the first ten minutes to find their rhythm as they trailed by two after the first quarter. All ten Army points were scored by freshmen as Camryn Tade, Fiona Hastick and Kya Smith held down the Black Knight offense through the start of the game.
The Black Knights came out sharp in the second quarter scoring 21 points including a 9-0 run. Lauren Lithgow, Kya Smith, and Reese Ericson combined for 15 points. Army would tighten up on defense getting six steals in the second ten minutes of play led by Lithgow as she came away with three. The senior captain missed just one shot in the second quarter as the Black Knights headed into the locker room up by 11.
Smith came out for a big third quarter scoring nine points while shooting 100% from the field and from the line. Army picked up the pace leading by as many as 20 points with just three minutes left to play before the final quarter.
In the final ten minutes of play five different Black Knights would score to open up the lead to as many as 27 points. They would hold the lead the entire fourth quarter as the Camels struggled to score and get open looks through the Army defense. The Black Knights came away with their second home win of the season 59-34.
Army will play its second of six straight home games on Tuesday, November 28th as they take on Hofstra at 5:00 PM.
