Hockey Blanked in Game Two at Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, CO - Army West Point hockey (0-8-0, 0-5-0 AHA) was defeated by a score of 4-0 in game two against archrival Air Force (6-6-0, 3-1-0 AHA) to close out the series.
Evan Szary made 30 saves in net for the Black Knights but the offense was unable to provide a spark to get Army into the game. Air Force outshot Army in every period and 34-20 total for the contest.
After last night's thriller, both teams battled in the neutral zone for the opening eight minutes as each team mustering just one shot on goal through that point. Soon after, Army killed off a pair of power-plays which featured a five-on-three opportunity for the Falcons as Szary was sharp once again.
However, Air Force found the first goal of the game with Clayton Cosentino poking one past Szary from in close. Cosentino continued his scoring prowess in the second period, deflecting a shot in from Owen Baumgartner that was taken right off a faceoff win that began a Falcons power-play. Air Force outshot Army 25-13 through the first two frames and took a two-goal lead into the third.
Army had an opportunity to get back into the game quickly, getting its first power-play opportunity less than 30 seconds into the third frame. The Falcons penalty kill was up to the task, getting the kill and scoring at even strength shortly after through Parker Brown which made it 3-0 with 15 minutes to play.Â
Lucas Coon deposited his second goal of the series with just over eight minutes left to make it a 4-0 game, with Air Force then taking two penalties within 17 seconds following the goal. Army peppered Guy Blessing with multiple shots during the five-on-three but the Black Knights could not find a goal as the final remained 4-0.
It marked three straight games that Szary logged over 30 saves for Army. Nik Hong won 10 of 18 faceoffs to lead the Black Knights in the circle. Mac Gadowsky also made his collegiate debut in the contest, logging a blocked shot and shot on goal.
Army will head home for a weekend series with Canisius this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
