Men's Soccer Ends In 1-1 Draw Against Colgate

West Point, NY – The Army West Point men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday night against Colgate.
How it Happened - The lone Army goal came quickly just two minutes in. Freshman Gage Lyons found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and third in the last three games. The goal came off a great assist from senior midfielder Colman Kim.
Army would get five more shots off within the first 20 minutes of the game from three different Black Knights. One of the best scoring chances came from senior captain Cooper Warrren as he sent a shot with heat on it straight toward the net, forcing Raider keeper Oliver Townend to make an outstanding save. Colgate would answer the Army goal late in the first half scoring in the 43rd minute. Junior midfielder Mason Pahule netted the tying score.
The Black Knights came out looking to score in the second half getting six shots away and sending multiple great passes across the box creating a variety of open looks.
Threatening offensively, the defense stepped up as well, as senior captain D'Anthony Brown made an incredible save clearing the ball off the goal line to keep the game tied at one early in the second half.
Army kept the pressure on with some of the best scoring opportunities coming within the last ten minutes of play. Senior Colman Kim got a quality look that was blocked in the 83rd minute while freshman forward Jubril Bamgbala would get the last open look of the game in the 89th minute, sending it just high.
Time would expire before Army could get another goal and the match would end in a 1-1 draw. After the match head coach Brian Plotkin shared his thoughts saying, "The group competed in a great way tonight. We started well and controlled long segments of the game. In the end, though we have to make more plays in the box than they do and tonight we each made one and that's the tie. We still have everything to play for in the league and Army Soccer responds when their backs are against the wall. I'm excited for the next week and seeing this team continue to grow and develop."
Army will take a short break in conference play as they hit the road to take on the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday, Oct 24th at 3:00 PM.
