Gymnastics Tops Springfield on the Road

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Army West Point gymnastics picked up its first victory of the season, defeating ECAC foe Springfield College by a score of 381.55 to 377.65.
Army was led by sophomore Joseph Buselmeier, who claimed first place on parallel bars, high bar and the all-around. Buselmeier scored a 13.400 on high bar to narrowly beat out Zachary Perez's 13.350. His 13.250 score on high bar saw another slim victory as Springfield's Noah Dhaliwal posted 13.200. Buselmeier ended the meet with a 76.650 in the all-around, topping his third podium of the day.
A Black Knight also earned first-place on both pommel horse and the vault. Johnathan Pinc dominated on the vault, posting a season-best 14.6000 to beat out Springfield's Jakarie Williams. On pommel horse, Gabe Almeida's 13.750 paced the competition, as Carter Beck's 12.200 landed him in a tie for third-place.
Almeida also led the Black Knights on the floor exercise, logging a 13.450 to claim second place while Corban Barstow's 13.350 ranked fourth. It was Buselmeier again who stood out on still rings, with a second-place individual showing through a 13.400 score.

The meet marked the final tune-up for Army ahead of its star meet matchup with Navy this upcoming Saturday (Feb. 4) at West Point. The win gives Army a 1-0 start in ECAC-play, and marked the 12th straight victory for the Black Knights on the road at Springfield, with the most recent defeat coming in 2011.
