Army Pushes Past Bucknell in 19-17 Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point wresting team defeated the Bucknell Bison 19-17 Sunday afternoon. Junior Matthew Williams had the game deciding major decision.
How it Happened
Throughout the afternoon, the Black Knights fought in their EIWA dual against Bucknell. For their ninth match of the season. Army's Nate Lukez, Ben Pasiuk, Ethan Berginc, and Matthew Williams each put points on the board.
The Black Knights started competition off in the 157-weight class. Junior Nate Lukez competed against Bucknell's Riley Bower. Lukez got on the board after securing a takedown with 55 seconds left in the first period. Bower also earned one-point with an escape. In the second period, Lukez had another takedown making it a 5-1 match. Lukez further extended his lead in the third period with a takedown making it 7-2. Cutting into his lead, Bower earned two points with a reversal, with one minute left in the third period. With 40 seconds left in the match, Lukez earned another two points with a takedown. He defeated Bower with an 11-5 decision.
The Black Knights earned six team points after a Bucknell forfeit. #20 (in the country) Ben Pasiuk went up against Sam Barnes in the 174 class. Pasiuk struck first with a takedown earning two points. Going into the second period with a 2-1 lead, Pasiuk earned one-point with an escape. Pasiuk defeated Barnes with a 6-2 decision.
Senior Sahm Abdulrazzaq followed in the 184-weight class competing against Bucknell's Mason McCready. McCready had a 2-0 lead in the first period before Abdulrazzaq earned a point with an escape. With 45 seconds left in the third period Abdulrazzaq made it a 4-2 match after another escape. McCready bested Abdulrazzaq by a decision (4-2).
In the 197-weight class Kyle Swartz faced Nolan Springer. Entering the second period, Springer had a 2-0 lead. Springer defeated Swartz by a 6-0 decision. Sophomore Kade Carlson went up against Bucknell's Dorian Crosby in the heavy weight. With a takedown in the first period, Crosby had a 2-0 lead. Crosby had a 6-0 lead at the end of the second period. Carlson earned a point with an escape in the third period. With 48 seconds left in the third period, Carlson had another escape, earning another point. Crosby defeated Carlson by major decision (12-2). With Crosby's win, the Bison cut into the Black Knights lead making it a 12-10 dual.
#33 Ethan Berginc competed against Grayson McLellan in the 125-class. 55 seconds into the first period, Berginc earned two points with a takedown. Going into the second period, Berginc expanded his lead to 5-0 after another takedown. Berginc bested McLellan with a 13-3 major decision.
In the 133-class Richard Treanor faced #23 Kurt Phipps. Phipps scored two points with 15 seconds left in the first period, after a takedown. In the second period, Treanor kept Phipps from scoring, keeping it a 2-0 match. Phipps defeated Treanor by a decision (3-0). With their win in the 133-weight class, Bucknell made it a 15-13 dual.
In his first collegiate dual start, freshman Shane Percelay faced #20 Darren Miller in the 141-class. Miller defeated Percelay with a 9-1 major decision, giving the Bison their first lead of the dual making it a 17-15 match.
Matthew Williams closed things out for Army in the 149-weight class. Williams competed against Kolby DePron. Williams took an early 2-0 lead in the first period. With a takedown, with 26 seconds left in the first period, Williams earned two points making it a 4-1 match. With a 9-5 lead in the third period, Williams earned two points with another takedown making it an 11-5 match. Matt Williams defeated DePron with a 14-6 major decision, earning four team points edging the Black Knights past the Bison with a final score of 19-17.
