WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point women's soccer opened its Patriot League schedule with a 1-0 victory over Lehigh at Malek Stadium. Kaitlin Palaian provided the goal in the 6th minute for the Black Knights, which proved to be the winner.

Kicking off the Patriot League campaign, it was the Black Knights who got out on the front foot at home. Keira Vesy placed a long pass from her own half into the path of Kaitlin Palaian, who shook her defender before firing a laser of a shot that the Mountain Hawks goalkeeper was able to get a hand to, but was unable to keep out of the back of the net. It was a dream start to the contest for Army as Palaian scored her second goal in as many games.

The Black Knights enjoyed themselves for a majority of the first half, with Lehigh failing to test Sage Strohman in net thanks to multiple blocked shots by the Army backline. Army found it difficult to produce more chances as well before the half, with Elise Urkov's tame effort saved in the 40th minute being the final attempt of the first 45.

Lehigh came out with more urgency in the second frame, but it was still the Black Knights who were able to produce quality chances in the box. Dara Murray and Lauren Drysdale saw opportunities from within the 18-yard box land off-target, as the game seemed destined for a 1-0 scoreline. Strohman was able to ensure just that, making a pair of saves on long-range efforts from the Mountain Hawks down the stretch. Army was able to secure its third-straight clean sheet victory at Malek Stadium, improving to 3-0-1 at home this season.
