SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Army West Point men's soccer drew 1-1 on the road against Seton Hall on Tuesday night. Firstie Josh Taylor made nine saves in goal for the Black Knights to limit the Pirates attack.
After falling to Seton Hall in overtime last year, the Black Knights headed south to take on the Big East opponent as the final test before Patriot League play begins this weekend. The Pirates were able to control possession throughout the opening half-hour, firing a total of seven shots in the first half to no avail on the scoresheet. Army's best chance came in the 39th minute when Eric Lusskin saw his shot from close range saved, as the teams went into halftime in a scoreless deadlock.
The Black Knights had a livelier start to the second half, eventually setting up set-piece maestro Cooper Warren with a free kick from a dangerous position in the 55th minute. Warren whipped in a beauty of a cross, with Nick Atkinson steering the ball into the back of the net with a calculated right-footed finish in the box. The goal was Atkinson's team-leading third of the season while Warren collected his team-leading third helper.
Seton Hall would respond once going down, tying the score just two minutes later through Johannes Pex with just over 30 minutes remaining. The Pirates would continue to mount pressure through the final stages of the game, with Josh Taylor making multiple key saves for the Black Knights down the stretch to keep the score tied. Taylor would end up with seven saves in the second half, as Army was unable to find a winner and earned the draw despite being outshot 18-5.
