WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point women's tennis standout Stephanie Dolehide and men's lacrosse record-setter Brendan Nichtern were the recipients of the Army Athletic Association (AAA) Award at the 2022 Awards Convocation and Superintendent's Awards for Excellence and Achievement and Distinguished Cadet Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 19.
The AAA trophy is awarded annually to the male and female cadet-athletes who display the "most valuable service to intercollegiate athletics during a career as a cadet." This year marks the 118th anniversary of the AAA Award, which was first presented to football's Horatio Hackett in 1904.
Dolehide is the fourth tennis player to earn the award and first since Elle Taylor did so in 2015.
A two-time First Team All-Patriot League selection and a team captain, Dolehide has successfully led Army Women's Tennis to two Patriot League Championship titles and as many NCAA appearances. The Brigade Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Officer, she has received the Coach K Award for Excellence in Teaching Character through Sport and became the first player in program history to earn a national award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association when she collected the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.
As a senior, she helped the team win the Patriot League Championship as the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament. She finished her career with a 47-25 mark in singles play and a 47-19 mark in doubles.
Nichtern, who is the eighth men's lacrosse player to win the award, was the catalyst for the nationally-ranked Black Knights while setting program records along the way. Army's career leader in points and assists was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight campaign.
The Massapequa, N.Y. native set the program single-season record for points (101) and assists (60) which are second and third most, respectively, in Patriot League history. At the conclusion of Army's campaign, he ranked first in the nation in assists per game (3.75) and points per game (6.3); his 2.5 goals per game were fifth in the conference.
Nichtern, who is only the second two-time captain in program history, finished his 116-game career with a program-best 284 points and 168 assists, which are the second-most in Patriot League history in both categories. His 116 career goals are tenth on the Army career list.
Nichtern, who has been named an All-American by USA Lacrosse, USILA, and Inside Lacrosse, is a finalist for the 2022 Tewaaraton Award which recognizes the top male college lacrosse player in the nation.
