Patriot League Awards Berg with Player of the Week Nod

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army Baseball's second baseman Derek Berg was named Patriot League Player of the Week in an announcement put out by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

The award is the first of the sophomore's career and the fourth this year for the Cadets, as Kevin Dubrule, Ross Friedrick and Sam Ruta have all been tabbed.

Berg is coming off a six-game stretch that saw him bat .400 with two doubles, one triple and a team-best nine RBI. Over the past week, he helped the Black Knights go 5-1 while closing out the regular season with an 18-7 record in Patriot League play, marking the team's most conference wins since 2018.

From his position at second base, the Texas native chipped in 15 assists while helping Army turn four double plays. His week was additionally highlighted by the go-ahead runs he drove in during the victory over Manhattan (May 4), as well as a 3-for-4, three RBI performance in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Lafayette (May 8).

Berg was one of two Army players to be featured in the weekly awards, as left-handed pitcher Sean Dennehy received an honorable mention selection. The southpaw picked up two saves last week while holding down an ERA of 0.00 through two appearances.
