Ruta Collects Patriot League Player of the Week Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After helping the Army West Point baseball team secure its first Star against Navy since the 2019 season, third baseman Sam Ruta was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

The sophomore batted .583 opposite the Midshipmen and left the park twice while racking up a team-high five RBI. Ruta was 7-for-12 at the plate in the Star Series, presented by USAA, and additionally chipped in four assists from the hot corner.

Over his last five games, which include last Wednesday's midweek win at Holy Cross, the returning Patriot League Freshman of the Year is slashing .550 and has cranked out six extra-base hits (two home runs, four doubles).

Ruta leads the Black Knights' (20-18, 13-5 PL) offense with a .378 batting average and has recorded a team-best six home runs. He is one of five players with at least 20 RBI, credited with 26 himself, and is slugging a staggering .655. He sits 19th in the country with four triples and additionally checks into the nation's top 50 in on-base percentage (.493, 43rd).

Connelly Early also highlighted the weekly awards for the Cadets, as he received an honorable mention nod. The southpaw tossed a complete game in the series-opener against Navy, tying his career high with seven strikeouts and allowing just three runs.
