Schwarting Named Finalist for MA Sorensen Award
April 21, 2022 | Women's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. --- Kaitlyn Schwarting of Army West Point Women's Rugby has been named a finalist for the 2022 MA Sorensen Award, as announced by the committee Wednesday afternoon.
Schwarting is one of five players to be named a finalist for the award. The MA Sorensen Award is named after World Cup-winning prop, groundbreaking player and coach, and successful doctor MA Sorensen. Maryann Sorensen has been a huge part of the growth of women's rugby since she started playing at William & Mary. She is also a star at the annual Scholz & Sorensen Awards dinner in Seattle with her wit and clear love of the game.
Schwarting has played a key role in the Black Knights' 15's and 7's seasons this year. She started in every 15's match for Army and competed in the 2021 NIRA DI Championship match. The Firstie helped the Black Knights reach the championship game of the Tropical 7's Tournament last weekend in Tampa, Fla.
The finalists will now be voted on by the MA Sorensen Award Panel of coaches, experts, and media representatives to name the 2021-22 winner. The Rudy Scholz Award and the MA Sornesen Award for the best men's and women's college rugby players in the country will be given June 11, 2022, at the Washington Athletic Club Gala event in Seattle, Wash.
