March 09, 2022 | Wrestling
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point wrestling team will be represented by four cadet-athletes at the upcoming NCAA Championship, as the Black Knights received two automatic selections and a pair of at-large bids for the tournament, which will run from March 17-19 at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit, Mich.
Both Markus Hartman (157 lbs.) and Ben Pasiuk (174 lbs.) secured their spots last weekend with their performances at the EIWA Championship, as Pasiuk wrestled his way to a third-place finish and Hartman landed at fourth. The duo will be joined by senior captains P.J. Ogunsanya (149 lbs.) and J.T. Brown (197 lbs.), who received at-large selections to round out Army's travel party.
Hartman (16-8), a three-time NCAA qualifier, received the highest seeding of the group, coming in at 23rd overall. He will face off against No. 10 Peyton Robb (13-8) from Nebraska in his opening bout.
Ogunsanya (12-4) claimed the next-highest seed for the Black Knights, as he was tabbed 24th. Having qualified for the second-straight year, he will open the tournament with a bout against No. 9 Kaden Gfeller (18-2) from Oklahoma State.
Pasiuk (19-5), who has also qualified for the second-straight year, was slotted 28th overall in his weight class. He will take the mat against Iowa's fifth-seeded Michael Kemerer (9-2).
In the 197 lb. bracket, Brown (13-10) claimed the 31st spot. In his third appearance at the NCAA Championship, he will compete against No. 2 Stephen Buchanan (23-2) of Wyoming.
This marks the fourth-consecutive year that Army has sent at least four wrestlers to the tournament.
