Army Drops Heartbreaker to Boston

BOSTON, Mass. --- Alisa Fallon led Army West Point Women's Basketball with a career-high 37 points, but the Black Knights were unable to pull off the comeback falling 80-74 to Boston University in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Monday night, in Case Gymnasium.
Fallon posted not only a personal best but Patriot League Tournament record for most points in a single game as she recorded 37 points while adding on nine rebounds and two assists. Sabria Hunter posted her 13th double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kate Murray contributed 11 points and four rebounds.
How It Happened
Army had a slow start to the game, trailing 8-15 at the first media timeout in the first quarter. Fallon was already strong on offense with four points in the opening two minutes of the game. The Black Knights had trouble containing the Terriers' offense as Boston shot 69 percent from the floor and 75 percent from beyond the arc. Army trailed 10-24 to Boston at the end of the first quarter. Fallon went 3-for-3 on the floor with two rebounds.
The Black Knights battled in the second quarter, outscoring Boston 30-17 in the ten-minute period. Fallon hit key free throws off a technical foul to put Army down 15 points (31-18). The Firstie strung together a six-point scoring run, including the two free throws, to get the Black Knights within 11 points of the Terriers, with 6:33 on the clock. With 4:26 on the clock, Murray made a diving play for a steal and hit the three-pointer in transition to cut the Terriers' lead to seven points. Boston broke a two-minute scoring drought to up its lead to 35-37, with just over four minutes in the quarter.
The teams continued to trade points before Fallon knocked down a three-pointer cutting Boston's lead to five points. A few possessions later, Fallon hit a turnaround jumper for the first tie of the game (39-39). The Terrier's got one more shot off in the final seconds of the quarter to lead 41-40 over Army. Fallon lead with 14 points going 5-of-6 from the floor. Murray was 2-for-2 from the three-point line.
Boston's offense was an issue for Army in the opening minutes of the third quarter as the Terriers went on a four-point scoring run while holding the Black Knights scoreless for the first two minutes. Hunter broke the silence for Army at 8:02 by netting a free throw (45-41). Boston broke away on a six-point scoring run to increase their lead to nine points over Army (54-45). With under a minute left in the quarter, Fallon hit a turnaround jumper and a trip to the charity stripe. She knocked down the free throw making the score 61-53, in Boston's favor, with 48 seconds left. Taylor Sullivan hit a clutch layup off a turnover for a final score of 61-55 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Terrier's opened the quarter with a run pushing their lead to 11 points (66-55). Army shut down Boston's offense for three minutes while scoring nine points in the span to trail by two with 5:27 on the clock (66-64).
With under a minute to play, Army earned trips to the free throw line due to technical fouls on Boston. Army went 2-for-4 from the line as Fallon cashed in her two putting Army five points closer to Boston (75-70). Fallon came in clutch hitting a three-pointer with 46 seconds on the clock making in a one possession game. Free throws hurt Army as the team went 5-for-8 from the line. Army fell 80-74 to Boston. Fallon led with 12 points in the quarter.
