Wrestling Sits Eighth After Opening Day of EIWA Championship

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Army West Point wrestling team finished the first day of the 2021-22 EIWA Championships slotted eighth in the team standings with 38.0 points.
The opening day of action saw the Black Knights secure two semifinal spots, as both 11th seed Richard Treanor (133 lbs.) and fourth-seeded P.J. Ogunsanya (149 lbs.) achieved the feat. Each of the two wrestlers posted a bonus point victory on their first day, as Treanor majored his opponent in the quarterfinal round, 13-2, and Ogunsanya pinned his competitor in the round of 16 (3:57).
Three other Cadets also guaranteed they will finish within the top eight, as fifth-seeded Markus Hartman (157 lbs.), sixth-seeded Ben Pasiuk (174 lbs.) and fifth-seeded J.T. Brown (197 lbs.) battled in the consolation brackets. Each member of the trio closed out the day with a decision in order to advance to Sunday's action.
Throughout the course of the first two sessions, the Black Knights posted five total bonus point victories (two major decisions, three falls). With one day left in the championship, Army sits just 15 points away from cracking into the top five of the team standings.
