WEST POINT, N.Y. – The third-seeded Army Black Knights dropped an overtime thriller to No. 6 seed Air Force on Friday night at Tate Rink.
GAME SUMMARY
Air Force's Blake Bride's goal at the 15:30 mark in overtime secured the win for the visitors in nail-biting contest.
The Falcons struck first, scoring at 6:43 in the first period. Army's Joey Baez equalized 10 minutes later after putting away a pass from Michael Sacco. However, Air Force scored a power-play goal with one minute left in the period to take a 2-1 lead into intermission.
The Black Knights gained control of the game with a three-goal second period. Eric Huss' seeing goal from the point tied the game at 2-2 the four-minute mark. Army took its first lead of the game 1:32 later on a power-play goal by Eric Butte. Although, the lead was short-lived with the Falcons tying the game 38 seconds later.
Noah Wilson added Army's fourth goal of the game and third of the period as Army went into third period with a 4-3 lead. Air Force managed to tie the game against the run of play with seven-minutes left in the period. Army put on the pressure immediately while Air Force had a few chances as the period ended with the scored tied at 4-4.
The Black Knights controlled the first half of overtime, keeping possession in Air Force's defensive end and outshooting the Falcons 10-1 through eight minutes. However, the Falcons took over possession and scoring chances for the rest of overtime. Air Force outshot Army 15-1, culminating in the game-winning goal.
