Cerruto Named to 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List

WICHITA, Kan. – Army West Point Baseball senior catcher Cam Cerruto was tabbed to the 2022 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, which was announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Friday morning.

Seventy-six catchers were on the initial list for the award, which is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher.

Cerruto, the team's primary catcher for the past two seasons, is off to a hot start in his senior campaign. The Torrington, Conn. native is batting .345 with four doubles and a team-high nine RBI and and has reached base in eight of nine games. Cerruto has thrown out four runners from behind the dish while posting a perfect fielding percentage.

Following today's announcement, the watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists which will be shared in May. Ballots will later be sent out to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote that will determine the three finalists. The final vote will occur during the College World Series, with winners being announced in Wichita at the end of June.

Cerruto and the rest of the Black Knights are currently preparing for a three-game set at TCU that will run from Saturday, March 12 through Sunday, March 13. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday before closing the weekend on Sunday.
