How It Happened
Army jumped out in front of Boston first with the help of McNaughton. The sophomore had nine of Army's 11 points when the first media timeout was called with 6:46 on the clock. McNaughton had gone on her own 7-0 run against the Terriers to push the Black Knights to an 11-2 lead. Boston's offense found its groove late in the quarter, cutting Army's lead to 19-13 with a minute and a half left. Army let fouls get the best of them allowing the Terriers to cut the Black Knights' lead to one to close out the quarter, 19-18. The Black Knights had a strong offensive quarter shooting 64 percent from the floor led by McNaughton with 11 points as she went 5-of-7 from the floor.
Army was dominant in the second quarter outscoring Boston 15-8. Hunter hit the first two shots for Army in the paint to put the team up 23-20. Her last layup ignites a 9-0 scoring run for Army to put the team up 30-20 with 5:43 left in the quarter. The Terriers fought back but the Black Knights were able to keep a 34-26 lead heading into halftime. Army won the second quarter rebounding 15-11. Hunter and Fallon led the scoring charge with six points each.
Boston took the momentum of the third quarter with a 9-0 scoring run to cut Army's lead to 39-37 with 6:34 left in the period. McNaughton fought back with a pull up jumper to put Army up 41-37. Army struggled to contain Boston's offense trailing 45-43 at the end of the quarter.
Boston's offense continued to give Army trouble in the fourth quarter as the Terriers shot 100 percent from floor. Army worked to dig themselves out of the hole. Fallon lead the charge with a driving layup to draw contact for the three-point play. The Black Knights were unable to complete a comeback falling 69-56 to the Terriers.
Coach's Corner
"I was pleased with our start, we played with energy and brought the fight to them. We did not sustain that level of play for forty minutes and BU capitalized. We can't afford to not execute offensively and allow easy uncontested shots on defense against a talented team like BU. They demonstrated why they sit at the top of the league." - head coach Missy Traversi
