| MEET 6 | |
| MEET | Navy – Star Meet |
| RESULTS | Navy 101, Army 80 |
| LOCATION | Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse |
MEET SUMMARY
The Black Knights won 7 of the 17 events – weight throw, shot put, 500m, 60m, 200m, 1600m relay, and 3200m relay.
The meet was close throughout with the Mids leading 63-58 through 11 events. However, Navy extended its lead in the final six scoring events to claim its third straight indoor Star Meet.
Gibson's record-setting toss in the weight throw (21.20m) gave the Black Knights an early lead. He broke the meet, program, Patriot League, and service academy mark. Navy swept the long jump as well as taking the maximum points in the triple jump, high jump, 800m, pole vault, and 1000m.
The Black Knights had a 1-2 finish in the 60m – Jon Redmond (6.86) and Justin Young (6.88) – to cut the score to 39-38 through seven events. Army took the top and third spots in the shot put with Gibson winning the event (17.93) and Luke Noonan (15.69m), as the Black Knights trailed 71-61 with five events left.
Army won both relays, but Navy clinched the meet with its second place in the 4x800m.

COACH'S CORNER
"This is a very disappointing outcome for our men today. We had some outstanding individual performances, but we also made some costly mistakes and that was our undoing. The scoring system keeps it close so we were in the meet until the end but just couldn't get the breaks we needed. We started well in sweeping the weight throw but fell behind in some of the other field events. Some of those results were expected. Where we underperformed was on the oval. We swept the 60m with Jon Redmond and Justin Young but then gave that momentum right back when we got swept in the 800m. That was the story of the day where the track events we needed to win we didn't win and it ended up being too much to overcome. In all, we won 7 of the 17 events. I thought going in that we would win 10 of the events. That negative margin cost us dearly. On an individual level what was stood out was the dominating performance of Jamir Gibson. He set the meet record, Patriot League record, Army's program record, and the service academy record with his 21.20m winning performance in the weight throw. He followed that up with a convincing win in the shot. He continues to impress and is our most accomplished performer. I told our team that we gave away some opportunities today and that while this loss stings the mistakes we made are correctable. The conference meet is our next chance to measure ourselves and I expect us to be more competitive." – Mike Smith
