Fallon Lifts Army Past Colgate

HAMILTON, NY --- Alisa Fallon notched her fifth double-double of the season to help Army West Point Women's Basketball (14-10, 8-6 Patriot) bounce back from a first quarter deficit to secure the 51-38 victory over Colgate (5-20, 3-11 Patriot) on Wednesday night at Cotterell Court.
Fallon led all scorers with 24 points, tying her season-high that she set earlier this season against Bucknell. The Firstie led the Black Knights in rebounding with 11 boards. Sam McNaughton, Sabria Hunter, and Lindsey Scamman each contributed eight points to Army's victory. Hunter recorded nine rebounds, one steal and one assist. Scamman added on six rebounds and two steals.
How It Happened
Army had a slow start to the game trailing 7-4 in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Fallon helped rally the Cadets with a pullup jumper to cut Colgate's lead to one-point with 6:51 left on the clock. A minute later, McNaughton drove to the basket and earned a trip to the free throw line. The sophomore sank both shots to put Army up by one (8-7). Army had offensive troubles in the final two minutes of the quarter with the only points coming from a three-pointer off the fingertips of Scamman. Colgate held a 15-11 lead over Army at the conclusion of the quarter.
The two teams were scoreless for the opening two and a half minutes of the second period before Hunter hit a second-chance layup. Army's offense and defense went to work in the quarter outscoring Colgate 14-8 to take a 25-23 lead heading into halftime. Fallon scored eight points in the quarter for the Black Knights while ripping down three rebounds. The Cadets held Colgate to a shooting percentage of 25 in the 10-minute span and held the Raiders to only two second-chance points compared to the team's six in the first quarter.
Army took off in the third quarter outscoring Colgate 15-7. The Black Knights opened the quarter with a 7-0 scoring run in the first two minutes of the quarter. At the media timeout Army led 37-25 over the Raiders with just under five minutes left. The Raiders fought back with a five-point run cutting the Black Knights' lead to 38-30 with three minutes on the clock. McNaughton helped Army answer Colgate with a driving layup to put Army up by 10 points. The Cadets escaped the third quarter with a 40-30 lead over the Raiders.
Colgate hit the first basket of the fourth period, but Lauren Lithgow answered with a three-pointer to keep Army's lead. (43-32). The Black Knights' offense was able to keep its pace scoring 11 points while they maintained Colgate with their defense only allowing Colgate eight points. Army captured the win 51-38 over Colgate.
