"The Crowell is an open meet and we don't score it so the focus is on the marks. In most years, this December meet has only had a few competitive events and the top performances would inevitably come from our team and in many cases, we were competing against ourselves. But Albany brought their entire team today and that helped drive the competition. We didn't win everything, but we did get better. The sprints and hurdles were strong today. There were meet records in both the 60 and the 60 hurdles. I can remember when we were happy that we had some women running under 8 seconds in the 60m and today we had numerous women competing under 8 seconds. Jazmine Alderman and Emma Taylor were our top performers and both set lifetime bests in the 60 today and sit at #6 and #7 all-time in that event. Jazmine came back with a strong win in the 200 to finish the day. Both of those women have worked very hard at their technique and they were rewarded today with some nice improvements. Saydee Aganus didn't win the 60 hurdles today, but her 8.71 was the best opener she has ever had. She told me that she didn't feel good doing it so I wonder what it will look like when she does feel good. She is already the best hurdler to ever come through West Point, and I suspect that she will run even faster than her 8.64 school record. Kayley Ragazzini was our top thrower today in winning the shot put and finishing as a runner-up in the weight. She is picking up right where Mikoud and Green left off. She will compete at the top of the conference in both events this winter. Samantha Sheppard Moore won the vault today with a lifetime indoor best. Sam always ends up getting over the right bars, but at times she has struggled with consistency. She knows that consistency is key and today she did a better job of managing her run to the pit and was rewarded with fewer misses at the lower bars. She is showing more maturity out there and I think it will translate into some pretty high clearances later in the season. The other performance that was a highlight today was the high jump win for Zoe Whaley. She made her first three bars on the first attempt and went out at 5' 7" but she had some pretty good attempts at all of those bars. Not a bad start for a plebe. All of the women that I have mentioned from the meet today are underclassmen. We have some really good young people on the roster and it was encouraging to see them compete so well this early in the season. Now we have to work hard through the end of the semester and then train well over the break. If we come back in January with the same fitness that we showed today, we will be pretty good this winter." - Director of Track & Field Mike Smith
