Men’s Swim and Dive Defeat Navy for the First Time Since 1990

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army men's swim and dive team defeated the Naval Academy Midshipmen for the first time since 1990 with a final score of 189-111. Owen Harlow and Brice Barrieault both broke Academy records Friday night.

How it Happened
The Army Black Knights kicked things off strong with David Manelis winning the men's 1M dive with a score of 315.75. Navy answered back winning the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:26.87. The Black Knights dominated the meet winning their next four events. In the 1000 free, freshman Brice Barrieault broke the Academy record with a time of 8:59.40 (Tom Ottman, 8:59.81, 2018).

Army's Owen Harlow had another successful night, as he won the 50 free with a time of 19.43, breaking the Academy record that he had set in the 2022 season (19.67). He also won the 100 free (43.19), breaking both the Academy record (Chris Szekely, 2015/Nate Hein, 2019 43.77), as well as breaking the Patriot League record (Billy Webber, 44.20, 2020). In the 200-back, junior Sam Wesley won the event (1:43.94) along with the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.15. The Black Knights swept the top three spots in the 500 free with Wes Tate (4:21.31), Brice Barrieault, (4:23.14) and Ian Tansill (4:24.27). In the in 100 fly, Navy took the top two finishes with Johah Harm (45.81) and Pat Colwell (47.34), while James Pinter finished third (48.62)

Army's Evan Yoo and Kohen Rankin finished in the top two spots with times of 53.23 and 53.24 respectively. Navy's Jackson Shultz abnd Nate Sukeena finished with times of 55.35 and 53.87. The men won in exciting fashion, cadet-athletes Tanner Falls, Will Rankin, Owen Harlow, and Jacob Powell win the 400 Free Relay, edging past the Midshipmen by four-hundredths of a second with a time of 2:54.68. Navy's Garrett McGovern, Austin Lockhart, Jonah Harm, and Andrew Everett finished second with a final time of 2:54.72. Army's time broke the Academy (Hein, Doo, Webber, McCredie, 2:55.66, 2019), Crandall Pool (Navy, 2:55.24, 2021), and Patriot League records (Navy, 3:19.51, 2020). Tonight's win marks the first time the Black Knights defeated the Midshipmen since December 1, 1990.
