Hockey Drops 5-3 Tilt Against Lindenwood

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point hockey (1-7-1, 0-3-0 AHA) lost 5-3 at the hands of Lindenwood (4-8) as the Lions completed the weekend sweep.Â
John Driscoll recorded his first career goal and assist for the Black Knights, while both Thomas Farrell and Ricky Lyle scored their second goal of the season.Â
Lindenwood went ahead on the very first shift of the game, finishing off a two-on-zero breakaway just 16 seconds into the contest. The Lions would take the first penalty of the game at the 7:08 mark, giving Army the opportunity to tie the score. Battling for the puck in the corner, Trevor Smith tipped it to Michael Sacco who would find Thomas Farrell in space who gave Army the power-play equalizer. Â
Gavin Abric made 18 saves in the first period to keep the score level for Army. The Black Knights came close to begin the second period, with Joey Baez finding pipe on two occasions across the first five minutes. Shortly after, Lindenwood regained the lead through Hunter Johannes after executing a 3-on-2 opportunity well. The Lions would score on the power-play later in the period, bringing the score to 3-1 heading into the third.Â
The teams would go back and forth in the final period leading to a 5-3 scoreline. John Driscoll bridged the gap to 3-2 five minutes into the period, cleaning up on the goal line after an Andrew Garby shot was saved in close. Lindenwood answered three minutes later to restore the two-goal lead with Andy Willis firing past Abric. Â
The Black Knights answered the goal on the power-play again, with Ricky Lyle deflecting a puck in front for his second goal of the season with Trevor Smith and Driscoll tabbing assists. Less than 150 seconds later, the Lions answered right back to go ahead by 5-3 and complete their first Division IÂ series-sweep.Â
