Men’s Basketball Posts 88-57 victory over US Merchant Marine Academy

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army West Point men's basketball (3-5, 0-0 PL) collected an 88-57 victory over the US Merchant Marine Academy (2-3, 0-0 Skyline) at Christl Arena on Wednesday night.
Ethan Roberts led the Black Knights with 17 points and posted his first career double-double, bringing down ten rebounds in the winning effort. Jalen Rucker recorded 16 points and four assists as the only other Cadet in double-figures, as Army saw 14 different players record points.
Rucker gave Army a 5-3 lead with a steal and layup in transition just over two minutes into the contest, as Army would never look back in securing a convincing victory at home. Scoring 11 of Army's first 22 points, Rucker would go on to score 14 points in the first half behind 6-9 shooting from the field to lead all scorers going into the break.
Ethan Roberts knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first 20 minutes, while Jared Cross and TJ Small also connected from downtown. Charlie Peterson and Abe Johnson dominated on the glass, posting six and seven rebounds respectively before the break, as Army took a 45-28 lead into the second half.
Army broke the game open to start the half, beginning on a 12-0 run to jump out to a 57-28 lead, with four different scorers accounting for the run led by Cross with six points. Roberts caught fire soon after, hitting on four of his five looks to lead Army with nine points in the second half.
Nolan Naess collected a season-high six points to go along with three rebounds, while Luke Benson scored his first career points, knocking down his lone look from three-point land. Abe Johnson went on to grab a career-high eight rebounds while logging six points. The Black Knights totaled 43 points in the second half to cruise to an 88-57 victory at home.
