Army Finishes Second in Black Knight Invite

WEST POINT, N.Y.- In their second home match this week, the Army West Point wrestling team finished second in the Black Knight Invitational with a final score of 95 points on Sunday. The Black Knights saw success having nine cadet-athletes finishing in the top five. Ethan Berginc continues to dominate on the mat, winning the 125 lbs. final, and is now 11-0 this season.

How it Happened
Army hosted nine schools for the Black Knight Invitational which included the University at Buffalo, Brown University, Bloomsburg, Campbell, Central Michigan, Columbia, Hofstra University, Indiana, and #1 Penn State. Penn State won the tournament with a total of 110.5 points, followed by Army and Indiana finishing second and third with 95 points each. The Black Knights had six athletes reach the semifinals.

In the 125-weight class, freshman #24 Ethan Berginc continued to dominate the mat. He first faced Hofstra's Jimmy Moon, defeating him by a 7-3 decision. Berginc went on to compete against Sean Spidle of Central Michigan, besting him by a 5-1 decision. Ethan went on by defeating Penn State's Gary Steen with a 4-2 decision and ultimately defeating Jacob Moran of Indiana in an exciting 3-1 decision that went to overtime, crowning him the 125 lb. Champion.

In the 133-weight class Army's Ryan Franco and Richard Treanor reached the quarterfinals before falling to their opponents. Franco defeated Mason Bush of Buffalo with a 3-2 decision before he was defeated by Indiana's Henry Porter. Ryan Franco reached the consolation and Treanor bested Brown's Nicky Cabanillas by a 9-4 decision, advancing to the Round of 16 where he fell to Cole Rhone by a 6-2 decision. Franco and Treanor faced each other in the consolation dual, where Franco finished fifth by decision (3-2).

In the 149-weight class, Junior Matt Williams reached the semifinals before falling to Johnny Lovett of Central Michigan. He defeated Mason Schrader by a 3-1 decision in overtime. Â
In the 157 class, Nate Lukez reached the semifinals by defeating Zack Rotkvich (4-1 decision) and Trenton Wachter by decision (9-3). Lukez fell to Penn State's Levi Haines by a major decision and finished third after winning the consolation duals.

Dalton Harkins defeated his first two opponents of the day. He first faced Riley Augustine winning by a 6-4 decision. He then went up against David Berkovich from Columbia defeating Berkovich in an exciting 3-1 decision in overtime. On Sunday night Harkins finished third in the 165-class after falling to Matt Lee by a 4-3 decision. Harkins defeated, Tracy Hubbard of Central Michigan in the consolation finals by a decision in overtime (3-1).

#21 Ben Pasiuk dominated in his duals in the Black Knight Invite in the 174-weight class. He defeated Bloomsburg's Anthony DeRosa with a pin (3:55). Pasiuk then faced Cole Rees again commanding the mat and besting him by a major decision (9-1). He went on to the semifinals and competed against Alex Cramer of Central Michigan by defeating him by decision (10-5). Moving forward Pasiuk faced Indiana's Donnell Washington. In an exciting dual, Washington defeated Pasiuk, and named the 174 lbs Champion by a 10-5 decision.

In the 184-weight class, Sahm Abdulrazzaq defeated Drayton Harris by a commanding 12-3 major decision. He went on to face David Tuttle dominating the mat with a 9-5 decision. Abdulrazzaq advanced to the semifinals where he fell to Penn State's Giuseppe Hoose by a decision (3-1). In the consolation duals, Abdulrazzaq reached the finals in a highly contested dual where Penn State's Donovan Ball defeated him by a 4-3 decision.
