WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's rugby picked up a 53-8 victory over Air Force on Saturday afternoon from Anderson Rugby Complex. The Black Knights improved to 7-0 on the season with the convincing win, with the +45 margin of victory marking the largest of the season.
Game Summary
In a battle of service academies, the Cadets from West Point asserted dominance from the start, getting out to a quick 7-0 lead through a try from plebe Ciaran Murray. Joseph Manning knocked in the conversion, before touching down for a try of his own at the nine minute mark to extend the lead to 12-0.
Pat Oglesbee took over from there, scoring the next two tries for the Black Knights, including a burst down the left sideline where he outpaced the Air Force defense to give Army a comfortable 22-0 lead. Scharl du Toit added a pair of tries before the half, with plebe George Engels also touching down for a try to give Army a 39-3 lead at halftime.
The Black Knights nursed their lead in the second half, eventually scoring a try in the 68th minute through Lucas Perez to make the score 46-8 following a conversion from Mitchell Campbell. The Cadets would add one last try for good measure in the closing seconds, with Devin Crowley doing the honors before Campbell made good on his second conversion.
