Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes Black Knights Past Mountain Hawks

WEST POINT, NY --- Army West Point Women's Basketball's (9-8, 4-4) dominant 21-points in the fourth quarter pushed the team past Lehigh (13-6, 5-3), 70-57, snapping the Mountain Hawks' five-game winning streak over the Black Knights, on Wednesday night in Christl Arena.
Kate Murray led the Black Knights with a season-best of 22 points scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter. Sabria Hunter contributed 16 points to Army's victory while ripping down seven rebounds. Alisa Fallon notched her fourth double-double with 15 points and a team-best of 11 rebounds. Kamryn Hall recorded nine points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Army out rebounds Lehigh 48-39 and held the Mountain Hawks to their lowest score of the season, 57 points.
How It Happened
Army had a slow start in the first quarter, trailing 7-4 at the first media timeout. Out of the timeout, Natalie Rhine hit a three to Lehigh's lead to 10-7 with four minutes on the clock. The teams continued to battle, Lehigh maintaining its lead over Army. With 1:04 on the clock, Murray hit a second-chance layup that ignited a 7-0 scoring run for the Black Knights. Fallon three-pointer with three second on the clock for the final points of Army's run giving the Black Knights a 19-17 lead over the Mountain Hawks. Fallon was battling on the board collecting five rebounds. In the first 10 minutes of the game.
Army kept its momentum going into the second quarter going on a 7-0 run in opening two and a half minutes of the period. Lehigh broke its silence with a three-pointer, but Hunter answered back with a layup (28-20). The Cadets held on to their momentum upping their lead to 13 over Lehigh with just over five minutes left in the quarter (33-20). Lehigh's offense rallied in the second half of the quarter while Army went silent two minutes. Army was able to maintain its lead over Lehigh heading into the half, 36-33. Fallon and Hunter each finished with four points while Hall had two assists.
Lehigh won the scoring battle in the third quarter 15-13 while tying Army in the rebounding war 12-12. The Mountain Hawks' were able to get within two of the Black Knights with just under four minutes left in the quarter (43-41). Murray caught fire hitting two consecutive three-pointers for Army to up the team's lead to 49-42. Army finished with a 49-48 lead. Murray had six points going 2-of-4 from the arc.
Army was dominant fourth quarter outscoring Lehigh 21-9 shooting 57 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Black Knights held Lehigh scoreless for the final two and a half minutes of the game to secure the 70-57 win. Murray led the team with 10 points in the quarter going 4-of-6 from the floor with three rebounds. Fallon contributed five points while securing three rebounds.
