Foster Releases 2022 Baseball Schedule
January 21, 2022 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Head coach Jim Foster has released the Army baseball team's 2022 slate in preparation for the upcoming season.
Â
The 51-game schedule features four teams that finished the 2021 campaign within the RPI top-50 and three programs that are coming off an NCAA Regional appearance.
Â
"We are really excited about the schedule we were able to put together for the 2022 season," Foster said. "Our goal year in and year out is to compete against the best teams in the country and this season will be no different. We have put together a schedule that will challenge our program and prepare us for conference and postseason play."
Â
The Black Knights will start off their year with 17-straight road games. The stretch will include a pair of neutral site tournaments in the Swig & Swine College Classic (Charleston, S.C.) and the All-American Classic in Fayetteville, N.C. Army's early road swing will also be highlighted by a series at Vanderbilt (Feb. 26-27), the runner-up in the 2021 College World Series, and games against the TCU Horned Frogs (March 11-13), who finished 2021 as the No. 15 team in the nation.
Â
After making appearances in the Carolinas, Tennessee and Texas, Army will return home to open Doubleday Field on Wednesday, March 23 with a 3:05 p.m. game against Siena. The date with the Saints will be the Cadets' last before diving into conference play, which is set to begin the weekend of March 26 with double-headers on the road against both Bucknell and Navy.
Â
Army will then continue its conference slate with games against Holy Cross (April 2-3) and at Lehigh (April 9-10). The action against the Mountain Hawks will be a re-match of the 2021 Patriot League Championship series, which saw the Cadets claim their third league title in four seasons. That stretch will also feature a midweek game against Hofstra on Wednesday, March 30 and an additional game at Siena the following Wednesday (March 6).
Â
Following those dates, the Black Knights will hit the road for a midweek game at Hartford (April 13), followed by a series at Lafayette (April 16-17). The team will then return home to take on Fordham on Tuesday, April 19 before hitting the road the next day for a date with Holy Cross (April 20).
Â
The final weeks of the 2021 schedule will be highlighted by the annual Army-Navy series, which is set to take place April 23-24 at a location to be determined. Since 2018, the Black Knights, who will be the home team, have claimed four series wins over the Midshipmen and will go for a fifth that weekend.
Â
Army's tilt with the Mids will be followed by six-straight home games, a streak that includes a conference series against Bucknell (April 30-May 1) and midweeks against Marist (April 26), Colombia (April 27), LIU (May 3) and Manhattan (May 4).
Â
On the weekend of May 7, the Cadets will close out the regular-season portion of their slate with home matchups against Lehigh and Lafayette.
Â
After the games against the Leopards, the 2021 Patriot League Champions will prepare for the postseason conference tournament, which is set to begin on Saturday, May 14. The team will look to re-establish its standing at the top of the league and secure its fourth NCAA Regional appearance since 2018.
