Black Knights Claim Third at West Point Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. --- Army West Point Men's Gymnastics claimed third place at the 30th West Point Open with help from Mathew Davis who claimed second place in the all-around for the Black Knights on Friday night at Christl Arena.
Davis won the silver with a score of 78.450, qualifying for the 2022 Winter Cup. He and five other Black Knights earned a spot in the event finals on Saturday, Jan. 15.
Army had a solid night, showing strength on all events with their best team score on its opening event, vault. The team finished with a score of 70.150 to take an early lead in the meet. Steven Manolakis led the Black Knights with a 14.300 on the event to earn a spot in the event finals. Jacob Nauman contributed a 14.050 for Army.
On parallel bars, Davis led the team with a score of 13.350 and punched his ticket for the finals. Joseph Buselmeier and Zachary Mitchell both moved on to the event finals after recording 12.900 and 12.750, respectfully. Army finished the event with a team score of 64.000.
The team did well on high bar, recording a score of 63.150. Zachary Perez stepped up big for the Black Knights scoring a 13.100 in the two position to earn a spot in the event finals. Kalvin Kingshill had the second highest score on the team with 12.900.
Next up was the floor exercise where Manolakis earned another spot in the event finals after posting a score of 13.650 for the Black Knights. Nauman had another strong event for Army scoring 13.150.
Gabe Almeida led the charge on the pommel horse for Army recording team-high of 13.000 claiming a spot in the finals. The Black Knights finished with a score of 61.650 on the event and sat in second overall heading into the final rotation.
Davis delivered on the rings for the Black Knights scoring a team-best of 13.900 to advance to the event finals. Buselmeier joined his team by posting a 12.900 to advance to the Saturday competition. Army finished the meet with a score of 388.650 to claim the bronze.
