Talley, Murray Earn Weekly Patriot League Honors
September 06, 2021 | Women's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Army West Point women's soccer team was well-represented among the Patriot League's weekly accolades, as Jasmine Talley was named Offensive Player of the Week and Dara Murray was tabbed Midfielder of the Week in an announcement put out by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The honors are the first for the Black Knights (3-3-0) this season, who are coming off a split 1-1 week of action after defeating William & Mary (Sept. 5) and falling to Fordham (Sept. 3).
"These two getting recognized is just the tip of the iceberg in how we competed this weekend," head coach Tracy Chao said. "As we reflect and rewatch our matches, we are seeing our offense and defense really coming together. There's no doubt that Jasmine had a fantastic weekend and specifically two big moments with her finish and assist against William & Mary. She's definitely not done yet with great work rate, energy and ability to read and move into dangerous spaces in our attack. If you watch the game-winning goal by Dara, it's a pretty accurate depiction of her as a player: pure determination, big-time hustle, grit, awareness and ultimate sacrifice of committing whatever it took to getting something on the ball which led to an unbelievable play."
Talley had one of the strongest performances of her career during the match against the Tribe, as she netted her first goal as a Black Knight and assisted on Murray's game-winner. With the addition of the assist she picked up during the double-overtime defeat of Saint Peter's (Aug. 29), she has four points in 2021, good for second on the team.
Murray, who owns an 11-match winning streak that dates back to the 2020 campaign, played a key role in the win over William & Mary. Her goal in the 62nd minute of action, which was her second in as many matches, proved to be the game-winner and boosted the team to its final 2-1 margin of victory. Her five points this year lead the Black Knights and are the third-most of any player in the league.
Talley and Murray are the first Cadets to sweep the weekly honors since current teammate Elise Urkov and recent graduate Erynn Johns did so during the 2020 season.
