Women’s Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award
September 24, 2021 | Women's Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Army West Point women's soccer team has received the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches, as announced by the organization on Friday.
The 2020-21 squad, which earned the recognition, posted a 3.32 cumulative GPA in head coach Tracy Chao's first year at the helm.
The selection criteria dictates that teams with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, that are also active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program, will be honored.
"This program has been hitting this mark for the last few years, so we are glad to give our cadet-athletes back to the recognition they deserve for their hard work in the classroom," head coach Trachy Chao said. "No question they put in the work with the course loads and curriculum as well as competing as a NCAA DI athlete. These cadet-athletes are impressive especially at a place that continues to rank at the top of any academic ranking as Army West Point was just ranked No. 29 in Forbes America's Top Colleges List and No. 2 in US News for Top Public Schools. And, huge shoutout to Lori Houlihan, Director, Academic Excellence Program in our Center for Enhanced Performance, for all that she does for each of our cadet-athletes over the last few years."
Army's cumulative GPA ranks third among the four teams that represented the Patriot League on the list. The Black Knights fell behind Lehigh (3.67) and Boston University (3.51), but bested Navy (3.04).
A total of 606 soccer teams (223 men, 383 women) were celebrated by the United Soccer Coaches for their efforts last year.
