Home Sweet Home
- The Black Knights return to action at Michie Stadium after earning a 38-35 victory over Western Kentucky during last weekend's home-opener.
- With the result, the team extended its winning streak at home to 11 games which is the sixth-longest in the nation.
- The triumphant streak dates back to the 2019 season, as the team posted an 8-0 mark on Blaik Field last year.
- In addition to the perfect record, last season's efforts at Michie Stadium were highlighted by wins over both Navy and Air Force as the team went on to capture the Commander in Chief's Trophy for the third time in four years.
- Through two games, junior outside linebacker Andre Carter II leads the nation in sacks, with 4.5 total for a loss of 29 yards.
- After entering the 2021 campaign with just one career sack under his belt, he tallied 3.0 in the season-opener at Georgia State and came up with 1.5 during the defeat of Western Kentucky.
- His four solo sacks tie Nevada's Tristan Nichols for the nation's lead, though his assisted stop puts him ahead in the overall count.
- Army was well-represented in the first week of the 2021 NFL season, as three former Black Knights were on active rosters: Alejandro Villanueva (Baltimore Ravens), Brett Toth (Philadelphia Eagles) and Jon Rhattigan (Seattle Seahawks).
- Alejandro Villanueva graduated from USMA in 2010 and went on to serve after commissioning as a second lieutenant with the Infantry. He served for three tours in Afghanistan was awarded a bronze star before retiring as a Captain. He signed a pro contract with the Eagles in 2014 and played for the Steelers before signing with the Ravens in 2021. He currently wears No. 78 and is listed as an offensive tackle.
- Brett Toth played for the Cadets from 2014-17 and enjoyed an extremely successful career, as he eventually represented Army at the 2018 East-West Shrine Game. Following graduation, Toth served a year as a second lieutenant before deferring his service and signing as an undrafted free agent with the Eagles in 2019. He made his debut with Philadelphia last season as an offensive tackle and wears No. 64.
- Jon Rhattigan is in his first season with the Seahawks after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2021. Rhattigan played a key role in the 2020 team's success and earned First-Team All-Independent honors, was recognized as a Second-Team All-American by the USA Today and was named a Bednarik Award semi-finalist for his efforts. He is listed as a linebacker and wears No. 59.
- Former Army football standouts Leamon Hall ('78) and Jack Price ('32) will enter the Army Sports Hall of Fame this weekend as members of the Class of 2020.
- Hall graduated as the Black Knights' all-time passing leader in game, season, and career levels and virtually re-wrote Army's passing record book during his three-year career as a starter. Hall still holds the standard for single-game passing (385 yards versus North Carolina in 1976) and in career touchdown passes (38).
- Price was a two-time First Team All-American as a tackle (1930 and 1931) and a three-year letterwinner. He captained the 1931 football team that went 8-2-1, defeating Notre Dame and Navy. The Black Knights compiled a 23-7-3 mark during the three years he lettered and went 2-0 against the Midshipmen. He was a four-year letterwinner on the track and field team.Â
- This will be the eighth meeting between Army and UConn since first meeting in 1979.
- The Huskies own a 5-2 advantage in the series, though the last two games are split between the teams 1-1.
- In the last meeting in 2015, the Huskies earned a 22-17 victory at their home stadium in Storrs. Though the Black Knights were able to trim the lead down to five in the fourth quarter, they were unable to overtake the home team for the victory.
- Ahmad Bradshaw started under center for the Cadets during that contest and ran for 129 yards with an average of 8.1 per carry. Early in the game, he orchestrated a five-play, 90-yard drive that put Army on top 10-3. The edge was the Black Knights' largest of the day.
- UConn comes to Michie Stadium in search of its first win of the season after starting off its campaign 0-3.
- The Huskies have been shutout twice so far, falling 45-0 at Fresno State and 49-0 against Purdue. The offense had its strongest showing during a game against Holy Cross, though the team still dropped a 38-28 result.
- Due to COVID-19, the Huskies cancelled their 2020 season and did not play any games. With that in mind, the team is currently on a seven-game losing streak that dates back to the 2019 season.
- UConn's last victory was a 56-35 result over UMass earned on Oct. 26, 2019.
- Overall, the 2019 team posted a 2-10 record, which included an 0-8 mark in the American.
- Lou Spanos, who has served as the team's defensive coordinator since the 2019 campaign, was promoted to interim head coach following the team's second game of the year. Â
