Women’s Tennis Tabbed Fifth in ITA Northeast Regional Rankings

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team was slotted fifth in the ITA's Northeast Regional Rankings, which were finalized by the organization earlier this week. The rank is the highest in program history.
The Black Knights, who went 12-4 during their dominant 2020-21 campaign, were additionally represented in both the singles and doubles rankings. Ana Joyner and Sam DiMaio checked in at fourth in doubles, while Joyner was additionally listed as 14th in singles.
"I am so happy and proud of Anya and Sam for being ranked fourth in the Northeast," head coach Paul Peck said. "They had a great season and an amazing win over Boston College's top doubles team in a really exciting tiebreaker. It's great to see all the hard work they displayed all season pay off."
Joyner and DiMaio teamed up to post a 6-2 record during the regular season which included an unblemished 2-0 mark against conference opponents. The duo played mostly at the second spot in Army's lineup and won three of its final four matches. In their victories, they outscored opposing pairs 37-16.
The second three-time Patriot League Player of the Year in program history, Joyner strung together a 9-1 record at the top singles spot in her final season. During her senior campaign, she went undefeated in league play (6-0) and helped Army take down Navy, 5-2, for a star in the Army-Navy Star Series. With her efforts, she climbed up the program's career record list for dual wins at No. 1 singles and now ranks third all-time with 33. She is Army's sixth three-time All-Patriot League selection after being tabbed to the First Team in 2021 and just the third player in league history to be named Player of the Year at least three times. She finishes her career with a 58-38 singles record and a 55-34 doubles mark.
Though Joyner's career has come to a close, DiMaio is one of 12 Black Knights that will return to the squad for the 2021-22 season. The team will look to finish over .700 for the seventh-consecutive season after coming in at .750 in 2020-21.
