Baseball Defeats Sacred Heart, 9-4

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Black Knights defeated visiting Sacred Heart, 9-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Doubleday Field.Â

The Black Knights (21-18) scored nine runs on eight hits, including. A six-run fifth inning that included a grand slam by Ross Friedrick to push the game out of reach of the Pioneers (18-20).Â

Starting pitcher Trevor Finan was outstanding in the victory, tossing 6.0 innings of scoreless, two-hit baseball. He struck out five while walking three as he earned his second victory of the year.Â

Friedrick led the way with four RBI on his grand slam, his only hit of the day. Nick Manesis had a two-hit performance with one RBI.Â

The Black Knights first got on the board in the second inning on a sac fly off the bat from Derek Berg. The Black Knights added two more on in the inning as they took advantage of a throwing error by the Pioneers' second baseman.Â

The Black Knights then exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to push their lead to 9-0. Anthony Giachin and Nick Manesis each drove in a run on a single before Friedrick's grand slam.Â

The Pioneers added two unearned runs in the eighth off reliever Sean Dennehy who did not give up a hit in 2.0 innings, walking one and striking out four.Â

They then added two more runs in the ninth off reliever Steven Graver but he was able to lock in and get the Black Knights the victory, 9-4.Â
