May 10, 2021 | Wrestling
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point wrestling team was well-represented in the EIWA's Academic Achievement Awards, as Ryan Chauvin, Lane Peters, Clayton Fielden and Ben Pasiuk were named to the 59-member list.
Â
The quartet was honored by the EIWA for its work in the classroom, as well as its performance on the mat. To qualify for an EIWA All-Academic award, an athlete must have posted a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and participated in the EIWA tournament, or achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and qualified for the NCAA tournament through the EIWA (NQ).
Â
"We are so proud of these guys for earning such well-deserved recognition," head coach Kevin Ward said. "We expect a continuation of their excellence both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat and hope that they will lead the way for the rest of the team."
Â
Fielden led the group with a 3.40 cumulative GPA in defense and strategic studies. He was followed closely by Chauvin and Pasiuk, who own 3.30 GPAs in business management and engineering management, respectively. Peters rounded out the selections with his 3.00 GPA in geography.
Â
Both Peters and Pasiuk were 2021 NCAA qualifiers, two of the team's seven total that advanced to the postseason. Pasiuk also highlighted the team's campaign by becoming the first freshman in program history to capture an EIWA Championship (174).Â
