Three Black Knights Take Home Weekly Honors

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's and women's track and field team placed three athletes on the Patriot League weekly honor roll. Senior Geoff Kirk was awarded men's field athlete of the week, while freshmen Mitchell Burr and Helen Shearer both took home rookie of the week.

Kirk earned men's field athlete of the week after setting an Army West Point and a Star Meet record in the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying throw of 18.59 meters. His shot put is currently best in the Patriot League, and the 26th best in NCAA D1 this season. He also placed third in the discus with a throw of 52.32 meters.

Freshman Mitchell Burr was awarded men's rookie of the week after winning the 1,500 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:50.24. This was his personal best and ranks fourth fastest in the Patriot League this season. The California native beat runners with two of the fastest three times this season.

Helen Shearer earned women's rookie of the week after an exceptional performance. She set a school and Star Meet record by winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an ECAC-qualifying time of 10:33.67. Her time is the fastest in the Patriot League by more than 20 seconds, and the 26th fastest in NCAA D1 this season.
