Gymnasts Fall to No. 3 Stanford Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point gymnastics team fell 412.35-371.25 to No. 3-ranked Stanford in a virtual competition Saturday afternoon at Gross Center in closing out its regular season.

Zachary Mitchell turned in Army's top finishes in two events and had the second highest in another. He led the Black Knights on parallel bars (12.6) and high bar (12.6) and posted Army's second best mark on pommel horse (12.4).

Stanford claimed the individual winner in all six events, as well as all-around and posted the top team score in each.

FLOOR EXERCISE
- Kalvin Kingshill turned in Army's top performance on floor exercise of 13.05 with Mitch McHugh and Graham Shaw next posting identical 12.95s
POMMEL HORSE
- Matthew Martin led the Black Knights' contingent on pommel horse scoring a 12.6 with Mitchell just two-tenths behind earning a mark of 12.4.
STILL RINGS
- Mitchell Monahan and Martin turned in Army's top performances with Monahan's 12.60 edging Martin (12.55) for that spot. Patrick Armstrong had the next highest score of 12.4.
VAULT
- Miguel Aquino posted Army's highest score of the meet in leading the Black Knights with a 14.0 on vault, which was .7 behind Stanford winner Bradon Briones' 14.7. Jacob Nauman followed with the team's second highest mark of 13.05.
PARALLEL BARS
- Mitchell garnered a 12.60 for Army's highest score in this event as the Black Knights grabbed the next four spots. Kiernan Reagan was next with a 12.45 followed by Armstrong (12.2).
HIGH BAR
- Mitchell, who led Army in its final two events, scored another 12.6 in taking top team honors on high bar. Kingshill was close behind with a 12.5 followed by Aquino's 12.4.
