Women's Soccer Takes Down Lehigh. 1-0
March 13, 2021 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y – Army West Point women's soccer defeated Lehigh, 1-0, on Saturday evening at Shea Stadium.
The Black Knights (2-0) tallied their second shutout in as many games on the year, with goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia only having to tally four saves on the night.
The eventual game-winning goal for the Black Knights came off the foot of Lauren Drysdale in the 50th minute. She took a centering pass from the right side from Elise Urkov, settled it beat a defender and set up the pretty shot to the left upper corner of the net to put the Black Knights on top just five minutes into the second half.
The goal for Drysdale was her first of the year and fifth of her career.
After a relatively quiet first half, with each side tallying four shots, the Black Knights came out blazing in the second half. After Drysdale's goal just five minutes into the second half, the Black Knights continued to put on the pressure offensively, while playing lock down defense for the duration.
Army tallied eight shots in the second half, to just two for Lehigh.
One of Lehigh's greatest chances came on a nice shot off the foot of Ava Schaller in the 90th minute of play that would have tied things up, but Cassalia was able to make a nice save to preserve the victory.
Urkov led the Black Knights with three shots on the day. With one on goal. Dara Murray and Drysdale each had two shots apiece.
Miranda Royds, the goalkeeper for Lehigh, made five saves on the day and took the loss.
