WEST POINT, N.Y. – Kyle Kutz, a freshman on the Army West Point rifle team, qualified for the NCAA Championship in smallbore, the NCAA announced in its selection show Tuesday afternoon. The championship will take place at Ohio State's Converse Hall in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13.
The Darien, Conn., native shot a 589 in smallbore in the NCAA qualifier meet against Coast Guard on Saturday. The score, which matched his career high, was the highest of the individual qualifiers in smallbore. Kutz was one of just three freshmen to qualify individually in either smallbore or air rifle.
Army will compete in the GARC Championships virtually at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center this weekend in its final team match of the season.
